Tomb and Chapel of Isadora | A visit to the Tomb and Chapel of Isadora is the highlight for many on their visit to Tuna el-Gebel. Isadora was a wealthy woman living in the 2nd century CE, and who drowned in the Nile. Her body was mummified, and at some time after her death, a cult would be developed around her tomb.
Her mummy is still here, in situ, and in excellent condition. This is probably most because of the dry desert air, more than the quality of the embalming. This is quite uncommon, as most mummies in Egypt have been removed from their original location. Here it still is, only a glass cage has been added to provide her necessary protection now that fresh air enters her tomb almost daily.
